A Holiday Game to Bring Everyone Closer
The Connection Game: A Simple Holiday Tradition That Brings People Closer

Every December, I find myself reflecting on how fast the year has gone — and how, no matter how busy life gets, what really matters most are the people we share it with.
Between gift shopping, travel, and year-end to-dos, it’s easy to get caught up in the rush. So here’s something simple to slow things down and bring genuine laughter and connection back to your holiday gatherings — whether it’s with family, friends, coworkers, or neighbors.
It’s called The Memory Match-Up Game, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite holiday traditions.
How to Play
You’ll need:
Small slips of paper or index cards
A festive bowl or jar
Pens or markers
Step 1: Everyone writes a memory.
Each person writes down one true memory or funny life moment about themselves.
Keep it lighthearted — like:
“I once locked myself out of my house in pajamas.”
“I met my favorite musician in the grocery store.”
“I got lost on vacation and found the best café by accident.”
Fold the paper and drop it into the jar.
Step 2: Mix and read aloud.
Take turns pulling a memory and reading it. The group guesses who it belongs to!
Step 3: Tell the story.
After the right person is revealed, they share the quick story behind it.
You’ll be surprised how much you learn (and laugh) about people you thought you already knew well.
Why It’s Worth Trying
It costs nothing, but gives everything.
No screens, no apps, no competition — just connection and laughter.
It brings generations together.
Kids love guessing. Grandparents love storytelling. Everyone wins.
It sparks gratitude.
When the chaos quiets down, it reminds us that the best moments in life aren’t the biggest — they’re the ones shared.
Fun Twists
The “Future Memory” Version —
Instead of past memories, write one goal or dream for the coming year and have others guess whose it is. Great for New Year’s Eve!
Neighborhood Edition —
Host a cocoa-and-cookies night, invite neighbors, and play the game with general memories. It’s a fun, no-pressure way to build community and meet new friends.
Kids’ Version —
Little ones can draw their memories instead of writing them. The results are hilarious and heart-melting.
A Little Reminder
It’s easy to get swept up in the pace of life, but moments like these — the ones that make you smile, laugh, or share a story you’ve never told before — are the ones that truly matter.
Whether it’s over dinner, cocoa, or during a quiet night at home, this simple game has a way of reminding us how good it feels to just be together.
From my home to yours, wishing you a holiday season filled with joy, laughter, and connection.
Your Real Estate Partner & Neighbor
(As always, if you or someone you know is planning their next real estate move in the new year, I’d love to help — but for now, let’s enjoy the season and make a few memories worth writing down.)
